Turkish

Hello! Merhaba! For term 1, our language in focus is the wonderful language of Turkish!

Turkish is spoken by approximately 88 million people around the world. It is an official language of Turkey, Cyprus and Northern Cyprus, and it is also spoken in parts of 11 other countries including Greece, Israel, Germany and more.

Did you know - Turkish is an agglutinative language - which means that many suffixes can be added to root words in order to change their meaning. This means that Turkish words can often become extremely long! The longest word in Turkish is muvaffakiyetsizleştiricileştiriveremeyebileceklerimizdenmişsinizcesine. Did you count? That's 70 letters long! (The root word is muvaffakiyet (success).

Teşekkürler (thank you) to our BIS Turkish experts for their help in sharing all about Turkish language and culture. Read on below to learn more!
