Hello! Hej! In term 3, our language in focus is the fascinating language of Danish!

Danish is spoken by more than 6 million people around the world - in Denmark, and in parts of Norway and Northern Germany.

Did you know - Danish speakers can actually pretend to speak 3 languages? Danish, Swedish and Norwegian all originate from the same language (Old Norse) - so people who speak these languages can often understand and speak to each other.

On Tuesday 14/05/19, Mr Thor Pedersen visited BIS to talk to Year 5 and Year 6 students about his incredible mission to visit all 203 countries in the world without flying. Interestingly, Lego is a Danish company, which started making plastic bricks 70 years ago in the small town of Billund. The name "LEGO" actually comes from putting two Danish words together - "leg godt" means "play well" in English.
