This half-term the language in focus is Thai! Thai is the official language of Thailand. It is closely related to Laotian, and draws a lot of influence from the early Indian languages Sanskrit and Pali, as well as old Khmer which was spoken in Cambodia. It is estimated that in total around 20 million people speak Thai as a first language today, though around 40 million people speak it as a second language!
