This half-term the language in focus is German! German is the official language of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the South Tyrol region of Italy. It is also spoken widely in Belgium, Lichtenstein and Luxembourg and it is recognised as a minority language in France, Poland, Hungary, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Italy, Russia, Romania, Slovakia and the Vatican City! It is estimated that in total around 90–95 million people speak German as a first language, 10-25 million as a second language, and 75–100 million as a foreign language.
